The latest software version of the Google operating system is scheduled for final release at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2020. That is Android 11, this Linux-based operating system will be available for touch screen devices or smart phones with a number of new features.
Several companies such as Xiaomi, Samsung and Realme have also planned to bring this new OS as soon as possible for their Android devices.
Their operating system based on Android 11 named MIUI 12 (for Xiaomi), One UI 3 (for Samsung), Realme UI (for Realme).
The name of Android 11?
Previously Google always gave their Android OS names with dessert names. Like Lollipops, Marsmallow, Nougat, Oreo and Pie.
Then from the introduction of Google’s Android 10 it has changed, it no longer names Android software.
That’s probably because the name of Android sounds rather strange and confusing to countries where there is no such food.
Android 11 features
Because this is not yet an official release and is still under development, there are no full features that we can mention. But, at least these are interesting features that come on Android 11, especially the user experience now.
1. Improved messaging
Bubbles , a feature to keep the conversation visible / displayed and can be accessed when the user is multi-tasking (like opening another application).
This can also be applied in third-party applications, because developers can also take advantage of this feature in their applications.
Special conversation section in notifications – this can make it easier for users to be able to find ongoing conversations.
Insert a picture in reply to a message in the notification. And of course if the application used supports copy paste images.
2. One-time permission
When the application requests permission to access a location, camera, microphone or something else, the user can choose permission once. So the permit is only temporary.
If the user moves away from the application, the application does not get permission anymore. It’s also useful not to always send current location data to social media.
3. Scoped storage
Actually this came for Android 10, but was canceled due to developer complaints.
This is a new way to control what information and files the application can access. That feature can also make applications read files faster. On the other hand it will also secure and protect data on external storage.
4. HEIF animation
Heif is a modern image format. With this format users can decipher and create HEIF animated images. Keep in mind the HEIF format offers drastic file size reduction compared to GIF images.
With a smaller size, this can save storage space.
5. Decoding low latency video
That’s what real-time straming applications and services need, with low latency video decoding, the first frame streaming will load with performance as fast as possible.
6. Supports 5G
With this support the application can check, whether the user is using the 5G service. As well as system updates in the bandwidth meter.
7. Supports folding phones
On Android 11 it supports a hinge angle sensor on a folding cellphone, which will create an experience for folding cellphone users.
8. Call filtering
Feature for managing calls with robots. And there will be more things that applications can do to help users.
Call filtering applications can also report reasons for rejecting calls.
9. Choose a refresh rate
Now mobile phones have supported refresh rates that vary such as 60Hz and 90Hz. On Android 11 users can set which one to use for their application.
So each application can be set with a different refresh rate, so users do not need to go back and forth to the settings.
Well, that’s some interesting features on Android 11 that will come.
